NLR In Mozambique
Is present since 1996 and has been working in Nampula, Zambézia and Niassa provinces. At the national, provincial and district level, the NLR representative provides technical support to the Central Leprosy Programme of the Government of Mozambique and government staff placed in all provinces and districts, raising the quality of leprosy services by improving the planning, monitoring & evaluation systems used for leprosy control.
NLR also contributes to improve clinical skills of Primary Health Care staff by conducting training courses and providing on-job training, advice & guidance. Funds are used to invest in networks. Meetings with other stakeholders, mainly community volunteers, contribute to inclusion of people with disabilities, those affected by leprosy in particular. Self – Care Groups (SCGs) in the high endemic districts of Nampula, Zambézia and Niassa provinces are trained. Along with developments in NLR’s general policy, NLR in Mozambique is also expanding its work towards support to persons with general disabilities.
